Meetup Ohioans - Going To Mansfield on Nov 18, 2023 - Reformatory Visit - Updated With Images!

Planning to visit the Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield, Ohio.

Thought I'd take the opportunity to invite anyone that may want to go.

Date: November 18, 2023
Time: 11am - right at open!
Gear: Planned for me is the Nikon Z f and the Z 28-75/2.8, adapted Voigtlander 12mm f/5.6.

Temp: Saturday looks to be a high of 48F, so bringing appropriate attire recommended for those that have never been - the first floor is heated, the rest of the reformatory is not.

I will be traveling solo.

Plan is to hit the reformatory early, spend a minute or two there and then hit "downtown Mansfield" get some food or something and walk about - do a little street snaps.
Maybe even hit some other places such as:

• Mansfield Cemetery
• Central Park area
• Richland Carousel Park
• Ohio Bird Sanctuary
• Mansfield Art Museum
• Anywhere else - if there are suggestions from others more familiar with the area than me!

Had a good visit. A lot more people there than I had anticipated.

The Voigtlander 12mm f/5.6 did well (the Z f does not have a 12mm setting for the non-CPU lens recording - so they show up as 13mm), even when I needed to shoot above 10000 because of the f/5.6 aperture. The Z f does very well in low light.

Monochrome processing was in DxO Filmpack6 using the Kodak T-MAX 3200 preset.

@gryphon1911 These are all awesome, Andrew! I’ve long wanted to go there, and have some friends who‘ve made the trip from here. Love the high contrast treatment on these, great choice and fascinating compositions!

Interesting photos.

I'm also assuming that the "nicer" rooms are for non-violent inmates.

BTW, neither of the two boarding schools I went to had heating either.
Toowoomba, where I went for 4 of those 10 years, is the only place on the Australian mainland where it has snowed on Christmas Day (mid-summer).

Yes, as a matter of fact I do and have a wedding booked for next year! 😁

You are correct. The newer functioning prison is right behind this facility. When you to OSR, you get warned not to take any photos of the active prison.

Great pics! Loved going through them. What are your thoughts on the Zf and how does the 28-75 balance on that body? Do you have the added grip?

Believe me, I am a DELIGHT to go out and shoot with. Any perceived intimidation on your part would soon fade away! I do appreciate the compliment though.

Interestingly, the Z 24-120 and the Z 28-75 are about the same size at 24mm. The Z f is passable with those lenses without a grip. (imagine trying to use the EM5 without the extended grip with the oly 40-150/2.8 - very similar - doable, but not optimal nor fun) With the grip, they are very natural feeling. Not like a Z6 or Z8, but close enough that I didn't have any handling issues with the 28-75 during this trip. I purchased the Smallrig grip for the Z f.
