We hear about legacy glass, why not legacy flash?

Got this OM series T20 flashunit today ($10 including postage!) from an online auction.
What a sweetie in very good condition for a 30 year old - human or otherwise!

Fits nicely on top, takes two AA batteries and offers thyristor flash-based auto sensing to 5 metres @ f5.6 with 200 ISO. And came with original olympus leatherette pouch as well.

I seem to recall reading that there can be a bit of a worry about the trigger voltages with older flash units being too high for modern digital cameras and potentially causing damage?

I've seen a few people using the T20 on m4/3 cameras, so I assume it is okay. It is definitely worth doing some research before putting an old flash anywhere near a new camera.
