Olympus Olympus sneakily announcement of the TG-7 yesterday

Hall of Famer
In the shadows of the G9 MkII release, OMD dropped the new version of the rugged, diveable camera: DPReviews announcement. Seems to be more of the same, nothing much new that I can find, a more grippable grip and the possibility to shoot video in the vertical postistion seems to be the major points.

Putting it here, even if its not a M43 camera for the lack of a Olympus forum. :drinks:

It is for the most parts, the go-to place for Lumix and Olympus stuff, though, with the exception of the Lumix FF stuff which seems to end up along with the Leica L mount bits, as per earlier discussions on the handling of those.

This may be the case - but that's not to say it's a sensible choice (I don't mean you, I refer to the generalisation you used as an explanation).

The Tough are deserving of not being seen as a just a sideshow to Olympus/OM System :mu43: greatness, they're their own kind of camera.

Besides, in the "Alternatives" subforum, there's an "Olympus" prefix. So, there is actually a suitable place for this to end up. Moved.

Indeed, the Olympus prefix in the non-Oly branded alternative forum, which sports many lesser brands as sub-forums, is also very intuitive to locate... ;)

Agreed - but probably also an consequence of the fact that too many people lumped everything Olympus and Panasonic in with :mu43: And it was Olympus (and OM System shows no intentions of changing that) who chose to reduce their choice of compacts and other options.

Let's rest this case - the camera has its due place now, if OM System decide to actually widen their lines, there may be space for a Olympus subforum. I don't begrudge you for not knowing about the prefix, mind. But :mu43: the TG-7 is not, period.

Please, remember and appreciate that this forum is the result of many mergers; we preserve historical structures as far as possible, but we try to establish as much order as possible. The way it is now, at the very least, it's not a mix-up. And I'll definitely try to keep it that way.

Duly noted, there may be more compact stuff lurking in the m43 forum though, I have had several small sensor treads that I think may have ended up there. Not to say that I may have postings under the Oly moniker in this forum as well, I havent been aware of it as such.

I still am of the opinion that there should be a "all-brands small sensor" sub-forum on here, as I have suggested earlier in the appropriate place. :drinks:

I saw the story on PetaPixel. It looks like a very nice camera with lots of features, including the ability to focus to less than 1/2 inch in "Microscope Mode"...which you'd need to get a good picture of its teeny tiny 5x6mm sensor (dealbreaker!) 🙀

I have had a TG-6 and currently have a TG-5, they are quite good at what they do, within their limitations which is the need for enough light.

They also seems to be reasonable good underwater cameras, without any need for additional add-ons to get some basic UW photography done and is cheap for that sort of stuff. I have some plans to do a bit of wading with mine when the time is right, but have seen non-pro shots, both stills and videos from the TG-5.

The TG line is probably a bit niche, but nice if there is a need, perceived or real. :)
