Olympus Olympus TG-5 - Macro capabilities?

Curious if anyone has had experience shooting macro with the Olympus TG-5 'Tough' compact camera? I miss the outstanding macro from my ancient LX7 (one of the nicer things about that camera) - and from what I hear, the TG-5 has a microscope mode which focuses down as close as something like 1 cm which sounds insane to me. Supposedly it also has a nift focus-stacking feature which really seems to operate best when doing macro work in the Microscope mode...? I've seen a handful of cool looking images from TG5's ---

But does anyone have first-hand experience with this beast?

And if so...whattaya think?

Gracias for any and all feedback.

Miguel

All Olympus compacts can focus down to 1cm. Thats why I use my XZ1 if I want to macro and not use DSLR. The Ricoh GRD3 also does. Pretty sure that Troy had some macros in amongst his TG-870 365 project... You'd be safe with the TG5. Oly calls it supermacro

One of the shots I did was of a moth on the opposite side of a car window, with the TG-870 pressed hard up against the glass.

Another was ants eating an iridescent dead beetle, with the front element almost touching the beetle’s legs, I had to keep recomposing because the ants were crawling onto my hands and having a chew. No trouble focusing or capturing detail though...

From what I’ve seen of the TG-5’s macro shots it surpasses the 870 in every way... :2thumbs:

Beautiful shots - especially the 2nd one - which looks like an Alien from a new Mega-Sci-Fi blockbuster movie!
