Really impressed with the results from DXO's DeepPRIME XD. You can't see it all that well in the sized-down forum version, but the NR took a (somewhat grainy, not that noisy, lacking crispness) vintage-lens file and smoothed the grain away and enhanced the detail without taking away the "feel" of the 35-70mm lens at all. The center is very sharp but the slightly soft edges have the softness preserved while still improving the image. Not sure where along the line (Lightroom or PureRAW) the EXIF got scrubbed though. K-1 mk. II.

DeepPRIME XD can't work miracles, however. If your focus isn't quite right, like the below cropped example, it'll just create a bunch of artifacting, much like older, less sophisticated sharpening. I'm not sure when the software can work it's magic, and when it can't. Perhaps it has to do with what parts of the image are soft.

Nice. I can still see the Pentax-F 35-70mm qualitative characters on this photo.

Didn't get to the conservation area this weekend, too crowded. Some of the trees that were the most yellow on Thursday have already past peak and are browning. Still many green leaves. A few people I met today who have been here for years and have been walking the area for that time mentioned they think peak color should be next week. Also going to try to get to a nature preserve in the area, but with very limited parking I might not be able to get in. Colors are close to peak there right now. Anywhos. Standard comparison snaps.

Productive morning today, I made the short trip to the Ramsey Canyon Preserve. Only 27 parking spots, no parking on the narrow road or other peoples' private property, I snagged the last open spot. I've tried to get in here several times the last few years, the parking lot has always been full.

Due to health still not where I need it to be, I only hiked (slowly) the lower portion today, a bit over a mile round trip. The bottom portion isn't too rough, only about a 200 foot elevation change in a half mile. The second portion raises another 500 feet above that in a shorter distance so it'll likely be a while before I feel OK trying that.

Saw a lot of wild turkey just prior to the Preserve, none during my walk. I did see a lot of squirrel, quail and deer. None were overly concerned with humans walking by, they've learned they don't normally get harassed on the preserve.

Nice color. More reds and some orange. Close to peak, staff thinks it'll peak by next week. Unlikely I'll be able to get back before that occurs. Used the "Natural" profile, closest I get to what my eyeballs saw today. My normal "Satobi" profile did too much muting of some colors. "Landscape" and "Miyabi" almost looked cartoonish to my eyes.

Beautiful, I wish that I were there. Now I have to plan a November trip to SE Arizona some day.

Lucky day IMHO. Mostly cloudy, sun breaking through once in a while otherwise nice subdued light. I knew there were colorful trees up at higher elevations, never really thought about the preserve, kinda out of sight out of mind. Another couple of walkers at San Pedro mentioned to me on Monday. Winter hours are late enough I have less problems getting up, so if you plan one give me a shout.
