I have mentioned this in a few places and a few times, in 2025 I plan to spend quite a bit of time meeting new doggies and making new fluffy friends. If the doggies are happy with me as in I am not causing them stress and anxiety and I can approach them safely and slowly, I will try to make an up-close portrait with a fisheye with emphasis on their noses and eyes. If the doggies are very friendly and welcoming I might try to boop (gently) their nose for the picture as well.
The purpose of the project is to help me with social anxiety and to (at the end) print a limited quantity zine (around 100-200) and offer it to purchase locally (I don't have the infrastructure to sell them online at reasonable shipping cost) and use all the money to donate for a local dog shelter/rehoming (if I can get the zine cost low enough to afford it) OR the proceeds to the same purpose.

The first image hasn't been a resounding success but it's a start and I will get better at it.

She's a good friend of ours (mine and Little Legs) and she can be a bit shy but she's an absolute sweetheart. The Pentax 03 Fisheye is quite the opposite of that 😛 ... The focus ring is very smooth and easy to turn, too easy and it goes so fast through the focus range that it is very easy to miss your focus. The lens does not have a focus distance scale just 5 lines and 4 dots in between the lines, the distance it has written on the lens is Near and Far, very helpful. And the lens has a fixed aperture so no smaller than f 5.6 and even at minimum focus distance that is not "infinite" Depth of Field.

The equipment I am using now is:
*Olympus OM-1 or Panasonic G2 with TTArtisan 7.5mm f 2 Pro Fisheye
*Pentax Q with Pentax 03 16mm f 5.6 Fisheye
What I plan to add in the future:
*Samsung NX500 with Samsung 10mm f 3.5 Fisheye Pancake

Good news. After getting the Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 8mm f 1.8 PRO getting the kinds of images that I wanted has become very easy:

Hold my paw Papa.

The combination of Subject Detection on OM-1, AF Limiter set to 0.1 to 0.7 meters (4 inches to 27 inches) makes getting the shot super easy and effective. The reason for this is that dogs have quite a long face and without subject detection the typical AF would try to focus on the nose instead of the eyes or the ears if it really has a bad day.
The other issue is dogs are extremely fast and extreme happy (unless it's an older dog) and you don't get more then a split second to get the shot, even 20 FPS might not be fast enough for hyper dogs like the Collies in the first images. This also makes it very difficult to shoot at stop down aperture like f 8 or f 11 for more DoF especially in darker places like forests, covered paths, heavy cloudy days and winter days.
I have sety C1 as my Doggy Fisheye Portrait with Aperture Priority, 20 FPS burst, C-AF with Pets Subject Detection, All AF Points configuration, AF Limiter 0.1-0.7 m.

One annoyance at the moment is that I have to "give up" on my OM-1 to have the lens on it in case I meet dogs unless o have time to swap lenses. This is why I was hoping the Samsung NX500 with the 10mm f 3.5 Fisheye Pancake could do the job as a pocket friendly solution.

Nyah, I don't mind at all, it's weather resistant including puppy noises and tongues proof.

Of course I get a just a second or even subsecond time to get the shot.

I think I got a raised eyebrow when she saw that I was shooting with an Olympus 😛

Some fluffers are not brave enough for THE EYE and that's okayu, we all have things we don't like to do and so does the doggies too. Respect their privacy and wishes.

Who said you don't need autofocus on a fisheye? Being this. Lose you can see the DoF is not that big but I prefer to work at f 1.8 for this kind of project.
