Film Petri Color 35

A thread for photos from the rare little scale-focus Petri Color 35, which came out in the late '60s and is very similar in size and shape to the Rollei 35. A heavy and mostly squared chunk of metal, with focus scale not on the lens, but inside the viewfinder, and a 40mm f2.8 lens.

The problem I ran into was the top shutter speed of 1/250, and sunlight as I shot the first roll yesterday late afternoon. It does stop down to f22 but I probably didn't take advantage of that all the time as I was shooting. So, quite a few were overexposed. I also suspect that the lr44 battery is a little bit different in voltage from what the camera expects and may throw off the exposure a little.

Scale focus can be hard, and the close up shots show that the most. I will see how the next few rolls go! This was Fomapan 100.

Neat. I have the Rollei 35, and have had a few other scale focus cameras. It is a different way of thinking, for sure.

It definitely is. I remember using a scale focus Konica C35 and got a few good photos from that camera. I have to say I'd prefer the focus indicator to be on the lens instead of in the viewfinder, and that seems to be the common refrain from users of this camera, but I am really curious to see if I can make it work for me long term. I'm going to have to come to terms with the slightly soft lens as well. So far I don't mind it, but I know there's a "sharpness" part of my brain to watch out for!

Really nice series, Andrew - and congrats on the new (old) camera! It actually looks like an improved version of my ancient Rollei 35 - and I am looking forwards to both reading and hearing and especially SEEING more of your ongoing images with this camera

Here are a few more from the above roll, which I messed up with exposure and/or focus and/or shutter speed, so I processed in LR with a little added bump in contrast for an "are, bure, boke" look.

I tried to shoot mostly moving, from the hip, with this roll, and many of my shots turned out blurry. Partly probably due to incorrectly guesstimating focus distance some of the time (though I was shooting at f22 for nearly the whole roll), but I think mostly as a result of 1/250, the top shutter speed available, being too slow for this kind of shooting. It can stop most subject movement, but not camera movement when I'm still moving. It was also a challenge shooting a roll of 400 speed film in mostly-sunny weather with some light cloud cover. F22 and 1/250 just barely tames the highlights.

When I'm shooting in the same conditions with my Voigtlander I'm usually at f11-f16, 1/500, ISO 400, so I can get to the same exposure with the Petri, just topping out the shutter at 1/250 which doesn't quite cut it.
