photo manipulation (bringing old statues some photorealism)

This is crazy. Here’s an artist reconstruction of roman emperors, based on their facial structures in statues, and information about their complexion and hair from ancient sources. Nero, for instance, was noted as having blond or red hair (and his original surname meant “red beard”). Once I was surprised by this, I did some research. I thought Italians had olive skin and dark hair, but turns out (based on 10 minutes of internet research, lol) those genes were introduced more strongly in Italy when Moors invaded Italy AFTER the fall of the empire. Before that, Rome was cosmopolitan, with people from all over?? So weird.
