When I post a photo to the forum, the colors appear more saturated than when viewed in my editing software (PS Elements) or my image viewing software (Xnview). I use the only (calibrated) monitor that I have. I doubt that this is an expected or common experience, but I don't really know. Any comments will be much appreciated.

I've noticed the same thing. Don't have an explanation for it.
I think you're seeing the compression algorithm at work here - it usually ups contrast visibly ... There's no real way around it IME, but you can try resizing your images before uploading to a maximum of 1600px on the longest side. I think the algorithm runs its course regardless, but the less it finds to change, the less it ... might change.

One other possibility is that your browser and your image editors may be displaying the color spaces and profiles slightly differently.

A thought. . . Try saving one of your images from the forum (right click, save as), then open it in elements and compare it to your original in another tab. See if the colors really changed.
Many thanks to all for the replies.
I always resize my images to 1600 pixels or less. I tried Lyle's suggestion: I downloaded the image from the forum, and compared it to the original, and if there is any difference in saturation it is below my ability to discern it. Then I opened the original file in both Xnview and in my browser (Firefox), and indeed, the image displayed by FIrefox was slightly more saturated than that displayed by Xnview (and hence by PS Elements), confirming Lyle's idea.
I was debating weather I should desaturate ever so slightly images that I upload to the forum, but now I know that i should not for that reason. Not to say that I should not desaturate them anyway, now that I've been looking at saturation more critically: I think that when I increase the contrast, that automatically appears to increase their saturation, and I think that my images have been mostly oversaturated to a greater or lesser degree.

I appreciate very much your suggestions.
