M-Mount PIXII rangefinder with M mount: bold move ...

Leica M-Mount cameras and lenses
Haha I want to like this idea, but it is just a scootch expensive for me for now. I do think this is the way ahead, Leica raises their prices faster than I can get a raise in my paycheck, and they will probably always remain out of reach. But I love manual rangefinder shooting, love the idea of a simplistic camera, love supporting a boutique company, etc. Hopefully they can find ways to make it drop to closer to the 2k usd price range. Thatā€™d probably be the tipping point for a lot of people, since that brings it directly into competition with the used apsc Leicas and the XPro range

I know nothing of marketing and market pricing. There was a Silicon Valley software foundry that increased the price of their package by $10 every month. They found the sweet spot for sales and went to that and stayed there. I have no idea how valid and exercise this was. I do wonder how much lower Pixii will go. Their lag time just went up from two weeks to three weeks. That is no time to lower prices, when you can not keep up with demand. Your desire and the company's goals may not mesh.

I am grateful I caught it with a 500 Euro drop. I do have more luck than brains.

Thatā€™s fine! If they donā€™t mesh, then so much the better for them. Rangefinder cameras are purely an exercise in enjoyment for me. Theyā€™re not practical for most of my shooting, so Iā€™ll just keep on not having a rangefinder camera at nearly 3500 usd plus another grand for a lens. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø No skin off my back either way. Wish them the best of luck though! Their success will only ever make modern non-Leica rangefinders more attainable for the rest of us.

Hey, with VoigtlƤnder, $1000 can buy you TWO lenses ;)

Pixii picture porn, ripped off from their site. Note that his camera is shooting JPG's. This is the version I have ordered: "Basic Black." Next I will buy it pearls. LOL

On the lens front. I have a really nice Canon 28mm LTM f/2.8, a CV 35mm and 40mm. It will work fine with the Jupiter 8 that has been kind to me in the color department. The same seller in Ukraine had a Jupiter 12, 35mm for sale I scooped up just now. And I found a very nice Canon 35mm LTM f/2.0 in Japan. I paid top dollar for the Canon in Japan but no dust, no fungus, no separation, no scratches. Dust and fungus would have been a CLA at this end of the line which would have pushed a lesser priced lens past this one in price. Scratches cannot be fixed. The fellow has a very high satisfaction rating so I am comfortable. I am stoked about this camera. Could you tell? LOL

Am I the only one who sees the bare, smooth surfaces on the Pixii as prime spots for stickers? Or am I just extra juvenile?
I would be terribly tempted to make it look like Joe Strummer's guitar ;)

Either that or find some leather for an M series and adapt it to fit the bottom half for something to hang on to. Wonder how well one of the thumb rests would fit in the flash socket?

That sounds like the DPR I know, heheh. I deleted my account and posts years ago, and recently went back with a new account to very judiciously provide help and tips in a few areas (such as about the Ricoh GR series) once in a while. I do not engage with the blowhards, in fact I do not engage in debate at all. I just consider that I'm not among friends there, like I am here, and act accordingly.
I never read the comments. That solves many problems.

A week ago I ordered the camera, 4 April. I am antsy but almost calm. I believe almost all of the major issues have been addressed. There will be additional tweaking as there is in all software and firmware. Other coders know that in release-to-the-public packages there is the push to gt it out the door and sell it. Some of the stuff on the market came out as barely past betaware. But updates and tweaks roll out and the work stabilizes.

These guys seem to be thinking of using this as a springboard as they did with the last. I believe the firmware will be refined along with the software OS underpinnings. It should fund a full size sensor down the road. This would be a good move for the owners who will be able to upgrade, no doubt, and for the chorus of naysayers who bemoan the current APS-C. In each case it is a good idea.

I have looked at images by two owners and they look good. They both work from RAW/DNG's so there is post editing involved. There are embedded profiles in the images unless I misunderstood Burling. He just released his second review on YT. My points are that this is an evolving platform and that it is getting better.

How it will affect the camera market is yet to be seen. It sure has riled up the camera BBS's. Woohoo, really riled them up. All part of healthy and heated discourse.

One of the things I like the most about the Pixii, as noted by Matthias Burling, is actually the light meter on top of the camera. It's low-key one of my favorite features about the Bessa-T, and the Pixii's looks exactly like the Voigtlander's. I much prefer dealing with exposure before I put the camera up to my eye, especially on the street when speed is of the essence.

Yes, I saw that, but . . . In Aperture Priority what difference does it make? Set the lens opening, focus, shoot. I am lost on this one so you better tell me like you would explain it to a six year-old.

I mean, you're asking me to explain it the way you would use it, I can only explain the way I would use it. I can't predict how you'll want to do things like bias exposure through exposure comp or something similar. For me, pointing the camera at something that's close to the brightness of the thing I want to be best exposed, and then changing exposure until the meter reads green, is what I would probably do. And I would do it in M, not A, most of the time.
