Planning a road trip northward

So,

LOML and I are in the planning stages of a trip northward from our home in Williamsburg, VA.

The first day we will drive to Hillsboro, VA to spend the night with some good friends who are going to join us on the journey.

Day one will be transit between there and Stewart Township (or vicinity) in Pennsylvania.

We'll spend the night and then do a full day junket at Falling Water. We'll spend a second night in the area and then head North to Niagara Falls.

We'll overnight and then spend a day or two (depending on what there is to see/do) doing the touristy thing. Maybe we'll rent a honeymoon suite, who knows!

Following that we'll take a leisurely meander southward staying somewhere between the Falls and Northern VA. Any suggestions are welcome for places to stay either in New York or Pennsylvania.

We'll probably head east and spend the night with our daughter in Springfield. And a final couple of hours home.

As I research details I'll post them in this thread and should anyone have any suggestions what to do (or not do) we would greatly appreciate.

We have never been to either of these places and they are on our bucket list, so git er' done!

When you are at Niagara Falls consider doing the boat ride that goes up to the falls.
Only take weather proofed camera equipment if you do.

Despite putting my OM-5 in a sealed plastic bag, it got totally soaked. But survived!

That is the only time I have been there so can't recommend anything else. But Falling Water is a FLW classic and should be amazing.

So I've been up there a number of times. Ohiopyle park near Falling Waters has some nice waterfalls and should have some nice fall foliage. I highly recommend stopping by Watkins Glen (the state park not the race track). Beautiful gorge with water falls. If you have time, nearby Letchworth falls, pretty damn impressive, of course no Niagra but number two in the East, I think. And every photography buff should check out the Kodak museum in Rochester.

We lost our vacation in West Virginia just this week so I envy you. Have fun. Take lots of pictures.

So doing some digging, it seems a valid passport is now required for US citizens to enter Canada.

My wife's expired about 10 months ago.

The various websites I consulted were exceedingly vague about this.

Anyone with direct experience care to weigh in?

When my son was first sent to be a company rep at another company back there in Conn, he met up with a gal and they went across without passports. On reentry he said he was from California and didn't know he needed one. Since he was dressed in sweat pants and a hoody with tennis shoes, in the middle of winter no less, they believed him and let him back in. Told him don't do it again. I think he got lucky.

Took us about a month to get ours. We used an app that helps you take the selfie and we paid for expedition, though we probably didn't have to.

As a Canadian, I understand that we need a passport to enter the US, so I would expect the same for Americans entering Canada. Searching a little, I found this, which seems like a reliable source (https://travel.state.gov/content/tr...-Travel-Country-Information-Pages/Canada.html)

Entry into Canada: Canadian law requires that all persons entering Canada carry proof of citizenship and identity. A valid U.S. passport, passport card, or NEXUS card satisfies these requirements for U.S. citizens.

Children under 16 only need proof of U.S. citizenship
