Sad that, Paul. Industrial action destroyed the entire industry in Britain.
It wasn’t just industrial action John. The entirety of the British car industry in the 1970s was a shocking mess - from board down to the factory floor. There’s a great Top Gear episode that covers it. They interviewed people from the era and it’s painful to watch. The Germans and the Japanese rightly took the crown.Sad that, Paul. We had the Button Plan in the 1970s. It was only 'supposed' to destroy British Leyland, but went on to destroy Chrysler, Holden, Ford and Toyota car manufacturing in Australia. So now we have almost no manufacturing left in this country.

You beat me to it, Paul. British Leyland's offerings at the time were the Allegro, Ital, Marina and Princess... total junk! British motorcycles broke down and leaked oil every where. Working conditions in ancient factories were appalling and there was a complete lack of investment in development and modern working methods and practices. Management had an almost "Victorian" attitude to the workforce. It wasn’t just industrial action John.
