Both signs were in Mindrolling Monastry, Dehradun, North India. I can understand that monks don't want to be disturbed by public display of affection but I don't know why eating peanuts is prohibited...

Can it be that they mean peanuts in the shell?
You all know how messy it is eating those and I guess the monks like to keep their place neat.
