Nikon Showcase Post Nikon Df Photos

There is more power, memory, and storage in an IPhone than a Cray-1 Supercomputer. Looking at the assembly language instruction sets of modern "RISC" processors, they owe a lot to Seymour Cray.

I'm a big fan of the Nikon Df.
Used it for the Nutcracker ballet this past week with the 70-200 f2.8 and older 400m f2.8 AFI lens.
Here you go.

On the road from Christmas eve through January 3rd with nothing but the Df and a bag of lenses. Spent Christmas with my wife's family in Rochester, NY and shot a bunch of typical family stuff and some scenic stuff from a couple of walks along the Erie Canal and through the village of Pittsford. Zeiss 25mm on the walk and a bit of the Zeiss 35mm for the family shots, but the real star was the 24-120 for most of the family shooting. The focal range is perfect for me for this type of thing and the Df is soooo good up to 12,800 (and above, but why?) that a constant f4 is plenty adequate. When it got really dark, I used the 85 f1.8, but the 24-120 really did the job most of the time. Here are a few family shots and scenic shots from the few days in Rochester. Now we're down in Carolina Beach, NC, so I'll have some beach-y shots later in the week... BTW, terrible wi-fi where we're staying, so most shots are only uploaded at 1024 pixels wide, with just a few of the scenic shots full size...

Ray, these are fantastic images. What a visual treat. You manage to bring out the best in all your camera equipment. Oh, and your timing in candid shots is top notch. Glad the Df is working so well for you. I've had my eye on the 24-120. Your shots make a strong case for this lens. Thanks again for sharing such stellar work. Happy holidays.

You seem to enjoy your Df, Ray, I like those two dog shots best.
Sometimes I really miss the AF from my ex-D300 or a full-frame OVF w/ matte screen and split prism for manual focusing. I'm still thinking about getting a F3 with a 35mm lens, but onboard luggage and film (+ developing gear and chemicals), no way. Haven't shot my film OMs for ages. It keeps itching though.

I've been pretty bored with shooting around my small town lately, but between weather and access to a vehicle (my daughter is in the area for a med school rotation and really needs a car, so my wife and I have been making do with one which limits my recreational mobility big time), I haven't been able to get out and shoot much else lately. So today I decided to mix it up and only take my 50mm f1.4D on the Df. The classic 50 equivalent is a focal length I simply don't see well in, regardless of format, and I tend to avoid it like the plague. So today I figured I'd make an exercise of seeing what sort of images I could find with it. I'm not terribly pleased with any of them, but at least I was engaged in the process. Still not sure quite what to do with such a lens other than narrow DOF shots, but those start feeling like a cheap trick after a while...

Nice shots Andrew - like them all but really like the second and third. I love the Df too - has become my only ILC anymore, after spending a lot of time with both m43 and Fuji over the past few years. Everything works the way I'd ideally want it to - if the exposure comp dial was on the right shoulder and could be unlocked, it would be perfect.

I'm pretty much fully infected by cabin fever due to lousy weather and temporary lack of transportation, so I occasionally just stick a macro lens on the camera and go around the house looking for ANYthing to shoot. Here's what I managed today:
