I like the police, but he just looks like he's ready to write someone a ticket, doesn't he. Can't he smile for the kids during the parade? I'll bet he's a real hoot at traffic court. "Yes your Honor. I observed the perpetrator doing 36 in a 35 mile an hour zone."

It seems as though the police there are being set up to fail. If they don't trip on that chain when they run after someone, that hat's gotta slow them down.
It looks like those boots are probably some type of Union requirement to mitigate all the ankle injuries from tripping on the chain. Can't imagine running in those either.

She is there to regulate traffic in a very touristic place in Shimla. At this specific place, police wear their parade costume, maybe for tourists taking photos...
I'm thinking it's like another version of NY's Times Square in that regard.

Oh my, where do I begin? 30yrs as a London cop. 2 years in uniform in the east end of London and the remainder as a detective in the City Of London. I retired as a Detective Sergeant in charge of Fraud Intelligence. Now free of the discipline of public service I attend protests to take photos of both sides of the equation....the forces of law and order versus those who CAN be bothered to get of their collective arses to change things. I have been dumped on my backside a few times when I have not been quick enough to move with the crowd. Generally I stand in the thick of the action......the dividing line between the law and the protestors. So, here goes!

cheers. I am also fond of the one with a cop on each side of the photo looking out of the shot but with all the action behind them.

Yes, that's really a great shot, worthy of any newspaper front page.
We really can feel "involved" in the action, as you're so in the thick of it.
I don't know if it's your relationship with the police or whether they're just so used to having the presence of press photographers milling about, but I'm amazed at their apparent indifference to the cameras invasion.
