Also DOUBLE BASS player for the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra. This is his primary occupation. Major props to Pekka for learning how to code to the mastery he accomplished.

Cameraderie Members: Some of our Cameraderie members are also members at POTN [Photgraphy-on-the.net], a photography community that has been around for over 20 years. Pekka, the owner / admin / coder, of POTN has announced that their intentions are to close the site within the next several months. For a community to have been online that long while remaining independently owned & operated by the original founder is amazing.

Some POTN members may be checking out Cameraderie, and are encouraged to join our community if they like the vibe of it, so if you see some new folks please be sure to give them a welcome.

POTN Members: Welcome! If you are curious about Cameraderie or any parts of it, feel free to poke around, check out the conversations, and browse as much as you'd like. If you have any questions or concerns don't hesitate to ask. If you don't want to create a member account here yet, you can either use the "Contact Us" link in the footer or you can ask me at POTN; I'm "KW802" over there. There are sure to be some differences between our communities, especially since POTN is using custom software with some cool features (like the nifty post attachments "gallery" slider), but we try to be a friendly place that welcomes all members and photographers of all levels of skills & experience and always open to suggestions.
Me too

Hello world

It's great to see so many POTNrts here. I joined about 18 months ago to run in parallel with POTN. Things may seem a bit strange at first but poke around. Everyone is friendly and helpful so just ask if there is something you cannot fathom.

There is a lot that you can "tune" in your account details. And, BTW, you can edit the titles of your own posts. That is something that you had to request in POTN

I'm a jazz hound, my principal instrument is the piano. But there two other instruments in the world of jazz that I have a tremendous love for and wish I had technical proficiency - the double bass and the trumpet.

That's all I wanted to say.

Does this happen automatically when you aren't sporting your own avatar?
No, it's from an old avatar maker website that was used some years ago to promote the last Peanuts movie.

The original site for the movie doesn't exist anymore but it has been recreated.

Thats a shame. Been a member there a while back when it was a Canon orientated site (Nikon here). Was a very busy place for a while. But when Pekka created his own forum software, thats when the site started dying IMO. I know my time going there slowed down a lot even after trying to give it some time. I think a lot of members also thought it was just too clumbsy. One thing I hated was constantly getting logged out automatically.

Pekka may have already switched to his own code by the time I'd joined up,
but it seemed to get much busier and active during my first 6 years or so, starting in 2008.
Yes, it was Canon-centric when I joined, but expanded a lot beginning shortly after.
He maintained and altered things to accommodate the ever-changing industry
and an influx of new users, adding varying topics and brands as the industry rose,
released a major update at what seemed the beginning of the industry's decline,
and truly stuck with it as the industry dwindled.

He's made a few updates to his proprietary AMASS software since, with the current version
being met with very high praise from members.
There's really a lot to be said about Pekka's customizations over at POTN.

Right now the relevant thing to say about Pekka's site is that he created a monster. He can't deal with it himself any more, and nobody else is able to take it over because of the proprietary code and complicated databases.

He is riding the tiger, and has to figure out how to dismount.

I'd like to point out the preference for and predominance of themed threads on this board - so, you basically try to find a suitable thread to post in instead of starting a new one. This means less individual, personal threads - and, to a degree, also less categories and topics; that said, there's no reason not to establish new threads, categories or subforums - but they have to appear necessary (not just catering to a single person's needs, that is),
M.
Not exactly a new face here, been around a day or two and a POTN from way back
Over yonder we, I, created specific threads for example "birds of Europe", "wild birds of Australia", "wild animals of Australia", "wild flowers of Australia"
They work well and stay focused and personally (biased as i started a couple) liked them as it was a collection of same area/ country subjects.
I read your comments and whilst you acknowledge it's permitted I feel it's not to be discouraged but also not encouraged.
I see photographic forums like this as an opportunity to appreciate and learn about our wonderful world of nature, and specific threads help that IMO.

I'm not trying to barge in and buck the status quo or trend, rather understand the preferences here.

It's a great forum IMO and I've only positive things to say.

I see some lovely photographs here in the photo sharing sections, but I see relatively little posts in the equipment sections. It does seem like there are excellent photographers here but not necessarily gearheads.
There are many gear related questions/answers discussions here, but they don't tend to be in specific threads. Nor do they tend to turn into sh!t fights as they so often do on some forums.
