Strange problem. I download the new update, move it to a blank formatted card and put it in the camera. I turn the camera on holding the back/display button and get the current firmware screen. I hit yes/OK and get the body/lens screen. I pick body, hit OK, and the camera says firmware update not found. I check the card and it's clearly there. I've down this a number of times and the same thing every time. I've done this before when I updated to FW 2.02 and it worked fine. Any thoughts? I checked the internet and there's no mention of a problem with this update.

I downloaded it and installed yeaterday afternoon with no problem. Formatted card, downloaded the update directly to the card and then went through the same installation procedure as you did Steve. I wonder whether downloading directly to the card would make any difference? Anyway - it worked for me.

It can be incredibly frustrating this updating process, for example with the GR it was something as little as using a specific button on the camera to update which wasn't mentioned in the manuals or anywhere else, with trial and error getting me through.

Silly question perhaps, but did you unzip the file and drop the contents onto the SD? If yes, maybe try downloading again. Perhaps the OG file didn’t fully download.

It's not a zip file. Perhaps this is one of those file-naming problems that crops up when there's an existing file with the same name on whatever system it was downloaded to. I had zero issues downloading (to WIndows), copying to SD card, and doing the upgrade in-camera. Check to be sure that the name of the file on the SD card is exactly "FWUP0030.DAT", and not some variation of that.

Also, the file has to be in the root directory of the card, not in a sub-directory like FFDB or DCIM. FFDB will exist on any card formatted in-camera. DCIM will exist if there are existing images on the card.

I got it. I did it on my Windows system at work. It seems like I'm doing the same thing, and I did the first upgrade on the Mac at home. Who knows? Thanks for the suggestions.

I suspect that if you look in your Mac downloads folder you might find that you were trying to upgrade from a file named something like “FWUP0030.DAT(2)” after downloading it twice.

I did get those, but I got the problem on the first try. Unless it put a (1) after the first one? I'll check next upgrade.
