For the animal shall not be measured by man.
In a world older and more complete than ours they move finished and complete,
gifted with extensions of the senses we have lost or never attained, living by voices we shall never hear.
They are not brethren, they are not underlings;
they are other nations, caught with ourselves in the net of life and time,
fellow prisoners of the splendour and travail of the earth. - Henry Beston

Great idea for a new thread and superb photo BryanL. I hope the photo need not necessarily reflect the quote.
Thanks Walter.

I hadn't seen that quote before today and thought it was worth passing on to others - it was someone's sig on another forum...

I am not one for hard and fast rules but I guess it would be good if the photo could somehow reflect the quote. Given that that may be difficult I think we could leave it up to the poster...

OK Brian, so here's one which is according to your wish:

Written when I was trying very hard to die. I had lost 26 Kgs in about 4 days, due to an allergic reaction triggered by a previous general anaesthetic some 6 weeks prior.

I have always thought that there should be something in this vein for those of us who are atheists, that honours our Mother, the Earth.

I wrote this on a used menu, as I knew that I would never be able to remember it later (I couldn't!).

So, here is the original:

And the neatly typed copy done after I recovered:

Maybe it's a bit infra dig to quote oneself, but I think that this contributes something to understanding of our world, and our place within it.

Language is the dress of thought, whenever you speak your mind is on display.

The definition of tact is the ability to make your point without making an enemy.

It sounded like a battle of wits between two unarmed opponents.

He was a very wise man, he could hold his tongue in four different languages.

My mother, may she rest in peace, frequently quoted one of the above to me whenever she felt it was appropriate.
Don't know where she acquired them.

You expected to be sad in the fall. Part of you died each year when the leaves fell from the trees and their branches were bare against the wind and the cold, wintery light. But you knew there would always be the spring, as you knew the river would flow again after it was frozen...
