Redwood hikes

We spent 5 days in the Redwoods again this winter break (one of our all time favourite places).
For me it was like being a kid in the candyshop :) I had my new Nikon D750 with the 24-120mm to try out (and the old Olympus E-M5 with 50mm macro).
(My wife had to be even more patient than usual  )

Beautiful images, Tilman. I was just looking at CameraSize.com, comparing your D750 + 24-120 vs my G80 + PL 12-60. Same FOV, but mine's about 1/2 the size and weight. Have you found having the FF sensor is worth the extra mass? I looked at your images on Flickr, and they are pretty nice.

In an environment as challenging as the Redwoods it was definitely well worth having the dynamic range and the low light capabilities of the D750.
In some areas you basically have charcoaled black trees in absolutely no light - possibly against bright sky breaking through the foliage. And when the sun comes through you have those dark shadows plus the brightness of the sun.
I've been taking photos there before with m43 and that was the one place for me where m43 hit the limit. Had to work the m43 files really hard. With the D750 and its raw files it was pretty effortless.

Size- and weight-wise it probably helps that I was always using some of the bigger (four thirds) lenses and cameras. I tried an old Olympus E5 earlier last year and the D750 is actually lighter and smaller.
Compared to the cameras I mostly use (E-M1 and E-1 - with 12-60mm) it's not that much of a difference :-D

I think I will always keep m43 for my secondary body - be it with a macro lens or the Oly 75-300mm. I won't be happy carrying full-frame equivalents of those on a second full frame body on my hikes :)
