I attended a march last Saturday, hosted/organised by Chris Packham and Megan McCubbin (TV presenters and environmentalists). The march was attended by a range of environmental charities and activist groups - from well established NGOs like the Wildlife Trusts, RSPB and National Trust, to activist groups like Extinction Rebellion and Just Stop Oil, to grassroots organisations and youth ambassadors.
The march was attended by somewhere between 60,000-100,000 people - many in costume, or with puppets, or with witty placards. It started on Park Lane, and continued on a route past Downing Street until it reached Parliament Square.
I was attending the march as a demonstrator, rather than merely covering it - nevertheless, I was shooting with a Panasonic G9 with a 14-140ii. This combo was light and maneuverable - the range proved invaluable for being able to quickly switch between crowd shots and detail shots of people/puppets/signs.
Though I enjoyed the march and feel I got some interesting shots, the underlying purpose of the march was to emphasise the importance of nature and conservation to the incoming UK government - so while I would go on one of these marches again, I suppose the hope is that I won't have to - though I suspect I will, as the natural world is so often sidelined in pursuit of power and profit in our modern world!
At any rate, I hope you enjoy this documentary series of highlights from the march.
