That park looks amazing. I've always wanted to borrow a 10-24, too.

I attended a conference in early May of 2015 in Ft. Collins. I tacked on a couple personal days to visit the park. When we reached the park we were turned back at the entrance station due to an overnight snow storm. I was bummed out. We began to plan a trip and this time had wonderful weather - low 70's day and 48 or so at night. We did all day hikes, the longest about 10 miles round trip which is now about my limit. Hiking in the higher altitudes was a bit of an adjustment but we took our time and enjoyed the surroundings. I got to see and shoot my first moose, a cow and two calves, which was exciting for me + a heard of elk and some white tail deer. Great fun.

The lens was lighter than I had imagined and smooth for manual focus touch-up. It was only $65 for 7 days and certainly worth renting for the trip.
