I've had this lens for years. I love the big aperture and pancake size of it, but my film tests with it weren't great. Something about the color cast maybe, but I also remember it not looking as sharp as the other Rokkor lenses I have. So it's barely gotten any more use.

This weekend, I took only the Rokinon 12 and this Rokkor 45 f2 with me, bike camping with the family. I found that ...

- Aperture turns the opposite direction of the Rokinon 12, which slows me down, but isn't anyone's fault.
- It's a little soft at f2, but seems to be decent at 2.8 and just fine by f4. I can roll with that.
- Focusing is easy, the rubber ring is nicely damped.
- All in all, it's a great companion lens. A little shorter than Portrait length, but long enough to get some bokeh at smaller apertures. And small, even with adaptor!

Some samples. These things still go pretty cheap at KEH, etc.

Wife's preggo, btw. Carrying as a surrogate for another family, so no cigars required. :)

I used to have one of these. It is a great lens. Passed it along to a local film maker friend to use on a Black Magic cam when I my eyes started getting less trustworthy with manual focus.

Took it out again a few times recently. Friday, riding at lunch:

Also took it on a vacation last week to Oakland CA. That trip dulled my liking of this lens a little. Sometimes it's great. Sometimes it's just too soft. I love the tactile feel of it, and it isn't BAD, but it's soft enough below f4 to make me flinch a little.
