Don't know why, but I'm thinking more and more about Samsung NX cameras and lenses recently :) So I was digging up my old shots taken with various Samsung NX bodies and decided to put together this thread.

Let's start with the first NX camera ever, the veritable Samsung NX10. I have never liked how this sensor performs at high ISO settings, but at low ISO its color rendition is top-notch. Sadly, its dynamic range also is not that great.

The next one is Samsung NX100 — Samsung's own version of Panasonic GF1

What a lovely set of images, stratokaster!

It's nice to see an NX thread - they're such an underrated series of cameras. I really like my NX100, especially paired with the 30mm f2, and am currently eyeing off an NX300.

Here's a few of my NX favourites:

Nice shots guys.
The NX system looks pretty interesting...the 30mm pancake and 85/1.4 in particular look like really fine lenses.
Hopefully Samsung stick by the system and continue to develop it.

Keep up the good work...I'll be keeping an eye on this thread for sure.

I'm kind of fed up with Micro 4/3 right now. For me it's a system that does everything, but excels at nothing. I'm thinking about getting Nikon 1 for action/video and Samsung NX20 for high quality, deliberate work.

Some shots taken with Samsung NX200. This sensor is really good at high ISO settings and has great dynamic range. And although OOC JPEGs are useless at ISO 400 and above, at ISO 100 and 200 they are sublime: detailed, well-sharpened and with colors that are never garishly oversaturated, but always rich and subtle.

The NX is my No. 2 system choice behind Micro Four Thirds. On my NX200 I love the sensor and particularly it's colour output; everything that comes out of it is just so crisp. Love the shape of the body, the feel of the materials and controls, and the quality of the screen and graphics. LOVE the 30mm f/2 pancake lens to the point where it would be close to being my favourite lens ever (shame that it is a clunky unit-focusing lens). Don't like the raw file size and write times nor the occasional AF indecisiveness in difficult scenes. Very curious to see whether the new NX300 comes anywhere near the current state-of-the-art in m4/3 for autofocus, general operation and responsiveness.

Nic, thank you for your wonderful contribution. I have similar feelings regarding second-generation Samsung NX cameras: a bit clunky, but very capable. And Samsung really nailed the color response of their 20MP sensor. The colors are very rich and subtle, I especially like how those cameras reproduce reds and blues.

Yes, the colours are wonderful and it doesn't oversaturate and blow the individual colour channels easily. I find that Sony-based sensors are more problematic in this regard and while I find Canons come closer they don't have anywhere the dynamic range.

One thing I was intrigued by when DxOMark tested the NX200 and NX20 a little while ago is that the NX20 scored a full 6 points higher despite being not a whole lot newer. Do you feel that this is reflective of the two cameras or an anomaly? Also, is it any more refined or faster in operation than the NX200?

NX20 definitely has more buttons. It has a dedicated button that selects metering patterns, it also has the so-called "green button" that resets parameters to their default value (for example, you can use it to quickly return the AF point to the center of the frame or to reset exposure compensation). It also has a dedicated DOF preview button (which can be customized). It also has a customizable button on its back which can be customized to quickly switch between AF types (multi-zone, face detection or single point).

I tested NX200 2 years ago when it was just released and ran the very first firmware version. Back then its DMF mode had a bug: if the camera couldn't lock focus, the DMF mode didn't work. NX20 doesn't have this bug but for all I know it could have been fixed for NX200 as well.

In terms of AF my experiences are mixed. In good light, the camera is very fast and decisive. I'd place it somewhere between Panasonic GF2 and Panasonic GH2 in terms of speed. In bad light with low contrast subjects its AF may be inconsistent. Sometimes it locks focus just fine and just a second later it can't lock focus on the same target. In such situations I just focus manually using DMF.

RAW files are about 33-35 MB in size so essentially the same as NX200 with firmware 1.04 or later. Initially (a year ago) NX20 was rather sluggish, but Samsung has slightly improved its operational speed since then. The camera requires very fast SD cards: I use SanDisk ExtremePro (an UHS-I card rated for 90 MB/s continuous write speed) and in single shot mode I can take as many photos as I want without the dreaded "Processing" message showing up. After full 8 fps burst processing still takes about 12 seconds, but I never actually use the burst mode so it doesn't bother me.

I quite like the shape of my NX200 for handling so I'm glad it is basically carried over to the NX300. One positive thing that I just noticed from looking at your picture is that the finger dial on the top plate of the camera has been moved forwards slightly. It's location on the NX200 is my major ergonomic gripe with that camera.
