Noticed a very peculiar search issue, where I was just making sure what I was posting wasn't already shared. See if you can reproduce the results.

GAS jokes aside, note that it changed what I typed for search words.

@Kevin Surely am, Kevin.

The only links on the home page that work for me is "Latest activity" under "What's new", and "Latest activity" on the bottom RHS of the page.

Appreciate your looking into it.
I'm trying random links and all seem to be working. When you click the links what happens, an error message or you go to a wrong URL? Any examples of what link you're clicking on where it takes you after? Any browser errors? What browser are you using?

Hmmm?

Just flashes, then drops me back at the home page. No error messages.
Any examples of what link you're clicking on where it takes you after?
"What's New" in the top menu bar, and it takes me nowhere.
Same thing with "Forums".
However, "Buy and Sell" and "Members" both work correctly.
Any browser errors?
No.
What browser are you using?
Brave and Chrome on my tablet (Android 12) and phone (Android 10), Firefox and Brave on my Windows 10 PC.

HTH.

I tried to reproduce the issues mentioned above.

Search is quriky anyway: The search window is much quicker and more accurate than anything that happens on "Enter". But that has been the case forever. That said, no problem at all - no changes in the wording, but I may have misunderstood you, Darmok ...

As to links on the homepage or anywhere on the site: All good, all working flawlessly. Firefox, Windows 11. The site isn't broken in any way as far as I can make out. That makes it eminently probable for the issue to be lying on the other end.

May I also mention that the issues are completely unrelated to each other? They really shouldn't be in the same thread because they most likely need to be dealt with separately. Since Kevin's aware of them both already, I'll leave things as they are, but if more of the latter should be reported, I'll fork the second issue out into its own thread.

Interesting info. If I hit "Enter" like you say, it does come back goofy. If I type in those words again, but this time hit the "Search" button, it goes through correctly. Though it still suggests that I might want to search for non-words. 😃

The system "Hiccupped" on me once this morning, seems fine now.

The Links on the opening page are simple "Anchor" type HTML.
Most browsers have a Developer's Tool option that shows the underlying HTML and allows you to inspect elements.

Doing this will show the exact HTML command executed as you click on a link.

The "standard practice" of clearing Cache helps a lot of problems.

How large are the images? What browser and what OS?

Chrome under Win10 is working perfectly, just loaded the above image.

And the attached image.

Images of a large size will cause forum software to kick in that resizes it, and compresses it.

Large file- in camera JPeg on the M240, full size.

The forum software quickly resized this and compressed to 128KBytes, from 8MBytes.

So- Chrome under Win10 is not having an issue.

Response is a bit hit and miss for me at the moment; that said, I don't think it's (only) the forum - there may be other issues concerning access to U.S. servers from abroad. European servers work fine (including Youtube, served via the Ireland IIRC), U.S. - not as well.

EDIT: To be more precise: Gmail is also spotty ... but mostly, things work, issues are hard to perceive ...

That said, after a couple of minor hang-ups, image upload worked mostly smoothly (all except one instance when it was somewhat slow), so, overall, no real problem. And certainly no issues with site functionality (links and whatnot) whatsoever.

You can bring up powershell or a command line window and type: "tracert cameraderie.org" at the command prompt.

If you see a big delay in some of the hops, might give some insight. You can also try a different browser, which has fixed many problems for me accessing various sites. For whatever reason, a site unreachable for a week under Chrome worked under Edge. Next week- back to normal.

c:\> tracert cameraderie.org

Non-AI, then ... old school, so to speak. "Sycamore gas" is pretty hilarious, somehow ...

I see what's happening, the funky results are from including "gap" in the search result. If you just do "sycamore" and then enter you get better results but by including "gap" you are also getting search results that are, to paraphrase, 'results that match "sycamore gap" or results that are like "sycamore gap"' and that's why results like "sycamore gas" are being suggested. The short character length of "gap" in this case serves as a hinderance.
