Traditionally, Tewkesbury retail traders displayed their type of business with a sign overhanging the shop fronts.
A few years ago I recall several (but can't locate my old photos) such as a fish displayed for the fishmonger etc.
Sadly on my recent visit I could only find two existing, both in the form of hats.
It looks like someone has taken a pot shot at the first one, unless it's an original from the Battle of Tewkesbury. 😉

I like these shots Brian! As I recall, I have a feeling Tewkesbury Abbey has quite a few bullet marks in it's walls?

I was really disappointed I could only find the two examples this time.

I can imagine you're correct with your assumption re the Abbey, given that the site of the Battle of Tewkesbury is close by.
I'm afraid we didn't have the time to explore the Abbey this time and it's getting on for forty years since we last did a tour.
