First through train from "Up" country for two months
Two months ago storms washed away the railway line at Dawlish in south Devon, such that much of south Devon, Plymouth and Cornwall have been cut off from the rest of the UK rail network.
G6 with 35mm Voigtlander Color Skopar
Today saw the reopening of the line, this is the first through train, the 07:30 ex London (Paddington) having just crossed Isambard Kingdon Brunel's masterpiece, the Royal Albert Bridge, entering Cornwall. Sadly the portals are covered whilst undergoing maintenance otherwise the inscription I K BRUNEL ENGINEER 1859 would be visible. Behind that unique bridge can be seen the towers and support cables of the 1961 road bridge. Both bridges are suspension bridges, the railway bridge being known as a Bowstring Suspension Bridge, a fitting tribute to an engineering genius.
