Actually behind the concrete ring there was a 2 km long runway from where Soviet fighter jets operated just 20 minutes drive by car from our capitol city Helsinki as late as 1954 after the WWII. The ring itself has been a cover of kerosine tank inside the ground. The concrete structure in the woods is shrapnel shield for fighter jets and the hole in the structure is for jet engine flames. The steel plate is left-over of runway, the muddy field was covered with this kind of plates to harden the surface for jet fighters, only short part of the runway was, not tarmac but, concrete. Russians took the plates when they left the Finnish soil for good, I hope
