Hawkes Bay, the region where I live has been devastated by cyclone Gabrielle. Apart from a banksia rose collapsing under the weight of the rain, I have been extremely lucky. A few trees down in a local park though. Tomorrow I'll go for a drive, but I am not sure I can bear to see the destruction first hand.

Trusting that the aftermath will be dealt with in a timely fashion, based on the number of New Zealanders I know I'm sure it will, Antipodeans are experienced and know how to deal with these type of events.

It's going to take years I think - these photos not a patch on what has happened. Not sure if this link will work - Hawke's Bay Photographs | Facebook

Hawkes Bay is an important food producing area, and I am concerned about farms, orchards and other agricultural sites. Maize would have been close to being harvested I think. I know from local Facebook posts that animals, pets, and others are lost. Heart breaking.
