I agree it's a common problem, I just think that over the last few years, the vast fortunes spent each month in some areas could be better of spent on our NHS for instance, but that's just me, I'll finish there, I'm not going down hat rabbit hole, but yes it's a shame that a lot of our once popular and busy pubs are closing , even if you didn't drink a lot, it was a good place to get together with some buddies for a beer and chat , you still can, but the price of a round is eye watering, but as an old git of 66 , we now get together at home with a few bottles of plonk 😃Geez, @Bozzie leaving aside the merits, or otherwise, of English beer, taxing anything enjoyable is pretty much a hallmark of cash strapped governments the world over.
We live in the highest taxed state in Australia, and see this sort of thing every week.
At least you have a health care system.I agree it's a common problem, I just think that over the last few years, the vast fortunes spent each month in some areas could be better of spent on our NHS for instance, but that's just me, I'll finish there, I'm not going down hat rabbit hole, but yes it's a shame that a lot of our once popular and busy pubs are closing , even if you didn't drink a lot, it was a good place to get together with some buddies for a beer and chat , you still can, but the price of a round is eye watering, but as an old git of 66 , we now get together at home with a few bottles of plonk 😃
Agree, and a lot of people in it work very hard indeed, but it's stretched to breaking point, our local hospital has some people left on beds in the corridor for most of the day, through lack of Doctors/ facilties/ beds etc, and that's just the tip of the iceberg, and trying to get a doctors appointment is a nightmare, it might be fine and Rosey elsewhere, that's just my personal experience. At least you have a health care system.
Nice set of pictures! I read a short essay/blog post only the other day about why UK pubs are in decline. There's a long list of reasons, but a big one is that alcohol consumption in younger people is in marked decline and has been for a long time. Us oldies are the major consumers apparently!Taken in Dorchester some time ago, probably nice in its day, unless it's been renovated since these photos were taken,or turned into makeshift hotel !! or charity shop, Mc Donald's, Domino pizza, but not a pub, as they're closing down ar a rate of knots because beer is now heavily taxed and too expensive .🙄
Good point ,particularly when it comes to old fashioned beer, a lot of the younger generation end up in nightclubs and get hammered drinking shots of the more exotic drinks, particularly abroad like Ibiza etc where the drinks are maybe cheaper and they really let their hair down.Nice set of pictures!
