Yes, the 70-300 4/3 is soft on the long end and seems a bit "flarey". Many of my aviation shots look like that unless aircraft is in direct sun while in flight. I will probably sell it soon ans find an MF 300mm.

Not sure where this arrived from, there were a couple of airshows on that day, but the nearest one was at least 150 miles north, and it zoomed in, circled over the local airfield and then zoomed off back in the direction from which it came.

50mm was the longest lens I had with me ...

WWII I think. Tail wrong for a Hurricane or Spitfire, isn't it? Might have been an American. Had a bit of a Merlin roar though. Although I think Merlin were retro-fitted to some US 'planes?
