I somehow missed this when you originally posted it. About a third of our facility were not even born when I began working there. At 60, I'm the oldest by a minimum of 4 years.Nice surprise to hear from another controller ; we're as rare as hen's teeth.
I worked for the UK NATS for 42 years at the UK's Major Airports and Centres then retired at 60 although we can stay longer.
It's a young man's game though.
Indeed. We have one parked on the tarmac that landed there and maintenance issues kept it from departing.Venerable Sea Stallion. Hopefully to be replaced by the K version soon - those birds are in tough shape. The Corps is almost done buying Ospreys, but now they're refurbishing them to the new Common Config baseline. The Maintenance Troopie's job is never done...
When I was a kid, a friend's dad was a helicopter pilot for the provincial hydro utility. He spent his days flying a Bell 47 along the high voltage electrical right of ways to make sure the clearances were OK and no wires were sagging too much. This was decades before mobile video systems were ever thought of. Probably pretty routine and boring but would certainly pay well.View attachment 381855
I didn't have much time to react, a helicopter was hovering above my house yesterday, I thought it was some kind of medical emergency.

Until I saw on the sisidee Electricity and in post I noticed the 2 giant 3D cameras hanging off it. I think it was surveilling the area, the helicopter was going very low above the train tracks 5 minute's walk away from my house and then it took off a few minutes later.
