At first, I really didn't felt comfortable the idea of shooting this country that is full of life and color with only a black & white camera, hence I also brought along another system (Micro 4/3s*) to complement my other shots. Overall, am satisfied with the combo, and would not hesitate to bring the MM again. Thanks for looking!

Really interesting shots Dave

would be nice to see them bigger, (1200 px wide?), as even on my 27" Mac they look small and do not do them justice

Lovely shots ......... I'll look at your web site

As good a feel as you have for B&W, you don't ever need to second guess choosing that as a medium. It may not be the only choice, but it's always a good choice. I love your work - I occasionally stop by the Leica forum and check it out, but I don't need the high priced temptation, so I mostly stay clear! As an old time B&W film shooter, I really love the flexibility of shooting color raw files and then doing my own B&W conversions, taking advantage of all the color channels and filter options and stuff, but when I see the Leica Monochrome used really well, there really is something special about those files that makes me almost second guess my preferences. But unless Olympus or Fuji or Nikon produces a monochrome body, it's gonna be an academic question!

I'd also like to see them somewhat larger though.

Wow - beautiful images, Dave!

What focal lengths did you have covered in your kit?

Kyle, thanks!

Here are some stats:

Total number of final photos: 740 (100%)

Panasonic GH3 - 345 (46.6%)
--Panasonic 7-14 4 - 55 (7.4%)
--Panasonic 45 2.8 - 77 (10.4%)
--Panasonic 35-100 2.8 - 213 (28.8%)

Leica M Monochrom - 395 (53.4%)
--Leica Summicron 28 2 - 180 (24.3%)
--Leica Summilux 50 1.4 - 215 (29.1%)

Thanks for the detailed breakdown, Dave.

Interesting for me how much you used the long zoom versus the UWA zoom. I have been wondering how much I would use either if added to my travel kit (been traveling with just a 35mm and maybe a ~50mm prime if going someplace cool).

Kyle, the mid-telephoto zoom (35-100) allowed me to get tighter shots which I really did enjoy (sans size & weight). The UWA zoom (7-14) OTOH didn't really get much action but had its moments when needed. On a hindsight, I could have left the UWA, and brought a mid-range zoom like the 12-35. But since I got the mid-range covered by the rangefinder lenses (28 & 50), I gambled to take the UWA along.

As you can see in the overall stats, more than 50% of my shots were done by the 28mm and 50mm, 2 of my favorite focal lengths to begin with. Just like you, I can bring only one lens, either a 35 or 50. Cheers!

One of my fav shots, by a 50mm:
