Deirdre, I envy you - I love pelicans and that scene is somewhere I'd love to be right about now. Ah....warmth, sun, sand, water...:cloud-9-039: Wonderful how you've caught him gliding there!

Traam, yours is quite striking in its simplicity and beauty.

Thanks Wylie. I don't know how you guys/gals do it with the compact. I couldn't get the LX5 autofocus to focus fast enough for birds, nor could I get the camera to focus specifically on the tiny faraway birds sometimes, I really really wanted manual focus on the lens in these circumstances. Actually I just remembered I did successfully catch a couple of photos of birds on one other occasion, I'll see if I can post them here.

I struggled to get these, there were many shots that didn't work. These were the only two that I was happy with in the end.

Thank you tann and Mayank for continuing to add your birds! What I think surprises me is that so many of the pictures here aren't the typical, and I'm not using this word as a pejorative, bird photographs. As I said, I don't mean "typical" in the negative sense. I would love to have the camera and lens and patience to take those amazing close ups that some are capable of and able to do! On the other hand, I enjoy the impressions of birds that each who has added to this thread has given me very much and, dare I say it, even more.

A few shots with SLT-A33

Turkey buzzard. They are kind of ugly up close, but are graceful and beautiful in the air.

This is a hawk I shot just as he was having a go at my chickens. He's lucky I just had my camera and not my shotgun.

A woodpecker in my backyard. They take these acorns from the front yard and stash them in the cracks in the dead tree in the back yard.

Crested Caracara or Mexican eagle

Another chicken eating predator. I figure he has taken a few of my chickens. He is really a big falcon though. I read they are pretty rare up here in the northern part of the state. When we moved here, I heard there were eagles here and this is a close to an eagle as I have seen. Now this one is as big as a bald eagle for sure. I've seen them three times in about eight months so they don't come around much.

That Mexican Eagle is a beauty. I can see him a long way off because of that silver-white beak just pops out. I really don't have any good sharp pics of him either because the Tamron 18-250 is just not that sharp at 250mm even when stepped down. I'm wanting a Tamron 200-500 for my next purchase and that should do it I think. Maybe next Christmas.

Oh, Bill, I think I'm in love! Just so everyone knows - this fantastic picture was taken with Bill's M8! Talk about the light...love those diamonds in the foreground leading me up to and around those sweeping gulls to the shooting fountain, and the hint of the mountains beyond. Bill, this is a serious keeper!
