A common Grackle. A mixture of black, iridescent and bad attitude. I've never had much success photographing these birds, or any black bird for that matter. The exposure always seems to be more challenging. Tonight was no exception. Strong setting sun provided enough energy to lift detail in the bird but blew out the branch. I really had to knock the highlights down to reduce the lightsaber look.
 
My wife and I visited the Mt Lofty Botanic Gardens [outside Adelaide, South Australia] specifically to check out the autumn colours.
As it turned out we were a week or so late to see it as it's best but as a bonus we discovered a shrub garden jumping with Eastern Spinebills and New Holland Honeyeaters!
