old old shot of a Chinese Pond Heron, shot at Suan Rot Fei in Thailand
View attachment 375133

This Hawk appears to be resting his starboard drumstick on the branch. He sat this way for several minutes, turning his head back and forth, as if he were watching the US Open in Forest Hills. He is not holding anything in his talons, he just appears to be resting or favoring that leg. I've not seen this behavior before. A moment later he retracted that leg and it disappeared into his belly feathers, as is normally the case when they rest.

Shortly thereafter the hawk lowered the gear and launched with both feet as if nothing was amiss, so apparently whatever it was is not a no-go item.

Gees Greg and Will, give us a chance will ya. Both stunning shots! WOW shots.

Never seen some of these from you before Greg, very nice mate. There must be somewhere in here you can post up your airshow shots as well G.

got a few storage problems right now....sigh, need to to do a back up with a new drive ASAP first, hopefully not lost anything this time

One of 'our' guineas has funny feet. Apart from the broken claw, I've never seen another with such coloration. Any avian experts here who know why this might happen? They look like dinosaurs!

Birds are dinosaurs, Irene.
Why they survived the K/T extinction when no non-avian dinosaurs did remains a mystery. Specially since the crocodilians survived.

Flying crocodiles ... ?

BTW, it appears that another asteroid strike from the same time has been discovered in the North Sea by an oil company. Perhaps the asteroid calved?
Thank goodness the crocs lost their wings. Barbecues would be a real pain in the butt if they could just swoop in and swallow all the brisket.

From September last year, one of a pair of kestrels that I spotted a lot over the summer, believe they were a mating pair

Am lucky to have some power lines running about level with my home office in the attic, which provide a popular perch for local birds - having them just a head turn away means they're good for bird spotting, bad for staying on task😄

This is a salvage job. This crow crashed the cornbread party and parked in the shade with a bright sunny background. I did some serious shadow lifting to get anything out of the body of the bird. There was a glimmer of reflected sun on it's face and feet, so that helped. I'm frankly surprised to have retrieved the detail I did from a jpeg with freeware.

Took a ride by the Waxwing hangout this morning. Still didn't have alot of time, and it was cold. These guys seem to be as anxious for spring as I am. Missed focus on a few shots today that could have been framers. Oh well, dems da breaks. I'll try again later, or tomorrow...before the blizzard hits tomorrow night and saturday.

WONDERFUL shots, Will, thanks for posting!

Am in Bend, Oregon, visiting an old friend who is a serious birder. He took me on a walk around some of the local large sewage ponds which are year-round homes to a number of waterfowl. Saw a lot of birds...
Including coots--

Here, a northern shoveler and a coot--

A bird I hadn't seen before, a blue-billed ruddy duck--

And saving the best for the last, a handful of female shovelers in flight--

One final bonus shot - some bird had seated itself atop this small tree, to do preening and ablutions... and it left a smattering of soft fluffy tiny feathers in the branches of the tree--

WARNING! Photo overload!

Spent about two hours in my backyard 'hide' today. Was hoping to catch the Cardinal but no dice. Almost everyone else showed up though.

Evidently, Starlings weren't made for hanging on to vertical surfaces while feeding. One will get a hold every once in a while, but it's usually chaos with bark butter flying while they try to get their beaks on the prize!
