Birds Show Birds

Thanks BB! It's a magpie, it was pecking for food on the ground when Keesha and I came back from a walk.

There was a quite a bit of post-processing to bring out the backlit feathers on its wings. It was taken with the Leica, with the excellent 50mm nokton f/1.1 lens stopped down to about f/4 or f/5.6.

I have to agree 100%!
Fantastic!!

Wow!!!! James, this is a fantastic shot. Talk about a cinematographer's eye! Fantastic!

Is this a Magpie? Stunning looking bird. I'm just bowled over by this. Such terrific lighting.

Is this with your Leica?

Well, James, you and Keesha saw this and your ability to photograph this bird with his wings in the down sweep with that light was just right. Good for you for being able to bring the beauty of reality out with your eye and your post processing. Very well done, indeed!

Mike - great hummingbird catches!! I've just gotten a new HummZinger Excel hummingbird feeder which has really attracted our Ruby throats, too!

BB... Thanks, I had to drive to a friends home in Michigan to get the hummers. I live in a ground floor apt and have been contemplating getting a feeder. Your addition might be the ticket. I'm looking forward to some pics from you.

Got him good this time!

This fantail has been visiting our yard for a few months now - usually in the evening in the worst possible lighting. Yesterday the little guy did a daytime visit and I shot off nearly 200 frames over 15 mins and finally got some in focus, close range ( approx 1.5m) shots at around 400ISO.
Uncropped photos below. Nice bokeh I reckon for a small format camera, eh?

Following his erratic flight with an eye level finder (DSLR style) would have been virtually impossible and was difficult even with the rear LCD and looking over the top of the camera. So often he disappeared in the instant of black out on the screen during a shot and was 3-4m away on a another tree branch! So don't believe anyone who says mirrorless and rear LCDs are no good for birding!

My next personal challnge is to get an in-focus BIF image of him.:D
