For the first time I have seen Geese in Wellington and in UK (I know, I don't travel enough). These 2 visitors came at the local Basins and have been happy to float around for about a week now.

Very beautiful birds, larger the Ducks but smaller then Swans.

Quite the wing span on them (given how far they can travel that shouldn't be a surprise) and they are very much gorgeous with 3 distinct rows types of feathers.

Oh my, that's a very long neck.

They are not ducking around with that serious look.

They are a very beautiful pair.

I don't know how long they will stay. It's the first time I've seen their kind here so I'm guessing this is just a stop on their travel.

I am sure someone will tell me very quickly what kind of Geese they are so I won't speculate (and I don't have time to identify them at the moment).

Nice to meet you too.

Nice detail.

Nice to meet you too.
I'm staggered that you've not seen them before. They are an absolute pain in most of the country, extremely messy, eat an awful lot of pond plants and generally wreak havoc on native birds. I'm not a fan at all, probably because there are literally thousands around. Nice shots though.

Never knew that. I admit that my life has not been very wildlife oriented, grew up in the city and while I did hiked a lot I started looking at and into wildlife only in the last 7 years when I moved to Somerset. I still have a lots of "firsts" to experience (never seen an Owl out in nature, never seen a Bear or a Penguin or a Puffin).

Yesterday I was lucky enough to get my first King Fisher in flight, the first attempt wasn't all that great because I was taken by suprise and I reacted more then I planned.

I was able to track it pretty close to the centre of the frame but it was flying away from me and my shutter speed was not high enough for such fast birds.

On my second try I managed to get a little bit closer (but still not enough to pull out the beautiful details).

And I manage to get 2 decent (better this time) images out of the sequence.

This one is my favourite. The King Fisher flew under a bridge and up the Tone River so I couldn't keep up with it.
