Birds Show Birds

Another one to bore your socks off

Todays, “star” bird

(Eastern) Black Headed Oriole, (Oriolus larvatus)

I have been trying to get a shot of this bird for the last three weeks. I have heard it most days but it usually hides and you cannot see it even if you are under the tree that it is in. Image 1 is usually the best I get. Today I was lucky. I was wakened from my mid morning nap, (I tend to get up about 6 out here, have a cup of tea and toast, mess around and then relax about 9:30/10:30), by it’s distinctive voice, looked outside and there is was, most of the time hiding but I did get a few “good” shots.

Twigs always get in the way

Thanks. I got lucky as there were some fisherman nearby and this pelican was waiting for scraps. This was taken with an A7r and 55mm 1.8, heavily cropped.

Todays offering

Yesterday, I went out in the Reed beds around a large inland lake and saw a few Kingfishers.
Equipment was limited, (I could only take a cheapish zoom), as I was in a Canoe, (what we "birders" do to get a shot), and the shots were not too great because of the movement of the canoe and the darkness of the Reed Beds - according to my wife they were also very smelly with lots of rotting vegetation - the image lack a little sharpness!

Adult Malachite Kingfisher, (Alcedo cristata) - normally just see them as a bright blue flash
Small birds about 14cm, 6 inches long

The Golden Eagles (I think) were around in Delhi today. Used the EPL5 n Panny 45-175. Hoping to get more in flight but they are zipping by on a strong breeze today

Ivoire,

Lucky man - I've never seen a Golden Eagle as there are only a few pairs in the UK, (in Scotland), and although they are "protected" they do get shot or poisoned, mainly, probably by "game keepers"

Wonderful photos both you!

The cormorants look as though they're setting themselves up for a diorama exhibit in a museum, and I think the kingfisher photo is great, Bill - you're too hard on yourself!

Michael, they do look like Golden Eagles, though I don't know a thing about birds in that part of the world. You did very well - and I love that first one, especially. Great to see him on the move!
