I keep an eye out for one of these, but I only get Downy. I used to see them all the time at my Mom's house.View attachment 374796
"500 billion trees in the forest and you couldn't find your own one to peck?"
I thought they were Downy woodpeckers. The Hairy woodpecker I originally thought was a Downy was much bigger than these two. Now I'm confused. It doesn't take much.I keep an eye out for one of these, but I only get Downy. I used to see them all the time at my Mom's house.
Could be I'm wrong, it's tough to tell the size in the photo. It looks like the beak is a longer than a Downy. Also, Downy's usually have black bars or spots on the outer tail feathers while Hairy are plain. Hopefully an expert will chime in.I thought they were Downy woodpeckers. My band in the 60s had a song called "Even Pigeons Like Pizza"Sometimes I wonder if they stay in the city just for the pizza.
Love the gold color of the water.
I quite often see pied wagtails in the fields round my house - and I'm roughly equidistant from each coastI don't even know where to begin with to try and find them, I work on every Sunday so I don't think I will catch any more empty ASDA parking lots to get this little birds curious enough to come back there.
Beautiful image and stunning image quality.First one of these I've seen since last year.

Birds are dinosaurs. One of 'our' guineas has funny feet. Apart from the broken claw, I've never seen another with such coloration. Any avian experts here who know why this might happen? They look like dinosaurs!
