Birds Show Birds

"Emma, look - she's wearing White after Labor Day and before Easter!"

Pigeon shunning commences.

There is a pair of Red Shouldered Hawks that haunt the woods around our house. They circle overhead seemingly constantly, and are very vocal. They seem to like the trees within 50-100 feet of our house, and fearlessly swoop into the branches, vocally announcing their presence, even if someone is out in the yard.

You have bird feeders, don't you? Those hawks know where their dinner is.

A couple from yesterday morning. I actually went looking for landscapey stuff and spotted this fellow having his breakfast.

Sadly, the FZ1000 let me down, shooting from the car, the vibrations made it nearly impossible to get the shot, and when I got the photos uploaded, realised that digital zoom in this situation is actually pretty useless.

The TZ90 behaved fairly well and I was reasonably happy with the shots from it.

Is that a specially installed 'nesting bracket'?
wonderful pun :)
As this is the chimney of a spinning mill long out of use the storks up there have their peace. But the whole area is going to make place for some 20 houses. I'm sure the town authorities find an alternative place for them. Everyone is fond of storks ... aren't they supposed to bring us the babies :D

Yesterday when I went to our back yard to do some yard work, I was greeted by a particularly vocal Carolina Wren. It actually followed me around at the storage shed, dropping down to a branch right above my head, jabbering away. Today, I had a pair of Wrens giving me an earful near the building. I figured there was a nest nearby, but was pretty clueless until I saw one of them land on top of the door and drop through a crack into the building with a mouthful of worms. Ah Ha! I’d already been in there twice, but hadn’t noticed a nest, but did I mention I’m clueless sometimes? I went and got my camera and went back and slowly opened the doors. Scanning around, I saw no nest, until my gaze fell upon a pile of green up on the shelf. Four little pairs of eyes followed me around, but they hunkered down, sensing I wasn’t Mama or Papa. I’m just glad I hadn’t blindly grabbed something from the shelf, or worse, thrown something up on the shelf.

So I try and find/stalk the Heron's in my area. I have my longest lenses at the ready and I get lucky once and get some awesome pics.

I decide today to just head over to a park in the middle of a city...and within 10-20 feet of some people fishing, this is what I see...and me with only the Fuji X-Pro2 and the 90mm f/2. I think I and the kit did ok!!

A few of the locals at the Viera Wetlands Saturday morning. Momma and baby were adorable and I was surprised Momma let us get as close as we were.
