Show Bridges

We had a wander around our old stomping ground of Runcorn a few weeks ago and shot several photos of the (in)-famous bridges, which I'll group together for you here.

This was originally a Mission Room for a local Methodist church, but later became the Spiritualist Church.

Here's a glimpse of the railway bridge, taken from beneath the "old " road bridge.

And a clear view of what is now known as the Silver Jubilee bridge. It opened in 1961 and as a schoolboy, I was made to wave a red handkerchief as Princess Alexandra opened it.

And you can just about make out the "new" bridge known as the 'Mersey Gateway' crossing the Manchester Ship Canal and River Mersey.
Once this was opened, both bridges became toll bridges, much to the consternation of the locals.
