But I know when it's that frosty clear air the sky can be quite dramatic like this too
It seems that the striking sunrises and sunsets in our region recently are probably due to an “afterglow” associated with the January eruption of the Tongan volcano, Hunga-Tonga-Hunga-Ha'apai. Apparently aerosols from the eruption are present in the stratosphere and dispersing light.

Thanks for that. Interesting, as the colours have been especially intense. Reminds me of when I was a child, and there were bad bush fires in Oz, and our skies were quite red/orange from the smoke haze. Can't remember year though. But the effect was similar, but probably more intense than what we've been seeing lately.
