Messing around with the close-focus abilities of the Sigma 45mm f/2.8 C. This was my first attempt at the shot - I had to use MF override to help out the struggling AF system; no way to tell if this is an issue with the lens as such or with the Sony A7 II. I suspect that AF performance will be a lot better on more recent bodies (third generation and newer) as far as this specific issue is concerned (I've had comparable problems with the Samyang 35mm f/2.8 - but that lens is wider and doesn't focus this close, so maybe the issue is mitigated ...). I'm not sure if it's discernible, but the light wasn't exactly helpful either. In good light, even close-up AF is good, but AF as a whole gets somewhat unreliable in bad light - again, probably only partly due to the lens. I'll have to test this further to gain a more definite insight.
Anyway, so far I'm really enjoying shooting with the lens - close-up AF seems to be its only glaring weakness, everything else is fine or better ...
