Nature Show "Flowers"

Your pictures make me miss the Sony FE 50mm f 1.8 even though I had twice disagreements with the IQ of the lens.
Thanks Ovi, I know what you mean. The issue that I have with it is that it has a tendency to miss focus and is very slow. The IQ when you get it right is pretty stellar and is one of my favourite focal lengths, the other being the 35mm. I have often thought of trading it for a Zeiss 55mm f1.8.

I had the lens twice and I sold it twice because of CA, I can't shot anything backlight with it because purple fringing just goes ape .... and it's as thick as a whole tree branch, trying to correct it leaves me with large amounts of grey and it looks ungodly.
But I love the old Zeiss Plannar optical formulae, it just has something that makes it feel timeless and a bit excentric. That's why I love my Sony FE 85mm f 1.8 so much (it has CA problems like the little nifty fifty but not as bad and it doesn't show up, the lack of colour information after correction, in prints at A3. Similar reason why I love the 28mm f 2 as well.

I do spend sometimes correcting the centre and midframe of the LoCA (green and purple) on the most important images (for me) but it's not an automated process to get it all cleaned up.

The Sony FE 55mm f 1.8 ZA Zeiss Sonnar T* has similar issues with LoCA and CA but it's significantly sharper. I would pay retail price for the amount of time I would spent correcting the CA and if the used price is 400 £ or less I would consider it.

The problem with LoCA and CA on the Sony system is if you want to not have those in your images you have to poney up for Sigma ART but they are big and heavy but reasonably priced. But if you want the fast AF(C) (which I do for pets) you have to unicorn up for G Master lenses which is incredibly expensive (around 1.000 £ mark for the used market). And all of them are at f 1.4 or f 1.2
Samyang Pro line of f 1.4 are better corrected but the AF is around the Sigma ART performance. The f 1.8 series from Samyang are a bit faster but IQ might not hold up as well.
