Eryngium is a genus of flowering plants in the family Apiaceae. The genus has a cosmopolitan distribution, with the center of diversity in South America. Common names include eryngo and amethyst sea holly (though the genus is not related to the true hollies, Ilex).

We did the very British thing on our visit to the United Kingdom in July 2016, we went to a flower show. Okay it was not the Chelsea Flower Show but the next best thing, the Hampton Court Flower Show.

Wildflowers are blooming in abundance along WV's New River.

Trout Lilly on the left and Wild Ginger on the right. The Ginger has a single basal flower between the leaf pairs that grows from a stalk right at ground level:
