We did the very British thing on our visit to the United Kingdom in July 2016, we went to a flower show. Okay it was not the Chelsea Flower Show but the next best thing, the Hampton Court Flower Show.

Dahlia is a genus of bushy, tuberous, herbaceous perennial plants native to Mexico.

Zantedeschia is a genus of eight species of herbaceous, perennial, flowering plants in the family Araceae, native to southern Africa from South Africa north to Malawi.

A popular house plant, Streptocarpus, is an Afrotropical genus of flowering plants in the family Gesneriaceae (the Gesneriads). The genus is native to Afromontane biotopes[from central, eastern and southern Africa, including Madagascar and the Comoro Islands.

Nepenthes, also known as tropical pitchers plants, is a genus of carnivorous plants in the monotypic family Nepenthaceae. The name "monkey cups" refers to the fact that monkeys have been observed drinking rainwater from these plants.

The sand leek (Allium scorodoprasum), also known as rocambole and Korean pickled-peel garlic, is a Eurasian species of wild onion with a native range extending across much of Europe, Middle East, and Korea.

Nectaroscordum siculum subsp bulgaricum - - Hampton Court Garden Festival - UK2016-125 by Andrew Priest, on Flickr

Nectaroscordum are deciduous bulbous perennials with linear, garlic-scented leaves and a tall leafless stem with a terminal umbel of bell-shaped flowers in early summer.

Chelsea gets all the money spent on it and the BBC spend hours and hours covering it, but Hampton Court is much better to visit. You can walk through the gardens, not just jostle with the crowd on the edges. And you can get a boat down the Thames to get there!
