Bugs Show 'Insect'

This individual was walking across the sidewalk in front of me... moving quite slowly, without a care in the world. At the far end of the pavement was an accumulation of discarded twigs and dried grasses, a veritable forest for an insect. Shortly after I took this photo, the mantis disappeared amongst them and was lost from view.

This is the first time I've watched this action. This grasshopper raises it's arm above it's head and then wipes his eye off. I watched him go through the motion a few times. I probably should have switched over to video.
Most insects do that. When I used a very thin water spray to add a bit of drama and the insects would clean it off their eyes AND the would pull their antenna through their jaws to clean the water droplets. It's very interesting to see. I do have a picture of that somewhere.
