A little change of pace, a piece of machinery, as we leave St Germain de Calberte on what was to be our last day of walking the Chemin de Stevenson.

Forestry Operations outside of Saint-Étienne-Vallée-Française by Andrew Priest, on Flickr

Seeing this machinery brought back memories of my early days working as a teenager for a Caterpillar dealer in New Zealand. Forestry was big in our local area.

Antique "Associated" hit & miss gasoline engine. This dates from before 1916, sat outside, and was last run about 1940 on the family farm. It was rebuilt by my brother-in law over the last 20 years or so. He demonstrated it's running ability to me on Saturday, June 25. The pics show blurring of the rotating parts at about 100 RPM.

I love it! Thanks to your brother in law who restored this priceless artefact.

I had a c.1932 2.25HP Moffatt-Virtue stationary engine which I used to drive a piston pump on our 30 acre property in the Adelaide Hills many years ago.

Took the same piston rings as a Wolseley six cylinder engine, very fortuitously. 3" bore and 3.5" stroke.

This one looks like yours:
