Well, more fun next year! I just learned I'll be granted limited infield access at a local 1/4 mile Oval/Figure 8 track. By 'limited' I mean it will be only with advanced notice/permission from the regular track photographer and I will accompany him. It's a start! He hasn't said anything about being credentialed, will have to find out.

This place runs Outlaw, ARCA (one step below NASCAR) and Figure 8...with school busses! I've seen video, looks ridiculous!

I used to visit Croft Circuit in the 1970's and one of my current favourite meetings there is the annual Nostalgia (HSCC) meeting usually for cars from the 60's/80's. The meeting hasn't been held for the last couple of years but was back this year (y) . This was my second outing with the E-M1X and I discovered how I think motorsport tracking works (identify vehicle, lock in, if helmet in shot then further lock in) which is great for bikes or open cars but I'll need to re-think for closed ones. I did however got an opportunity to test the E-M1X's weather-proof ability when the afternoon started fine then drizzled then rained then downpoured (such that the F2/Atlantic race was red flagged after two laps).

For old times sake here is the start of a Clubmans race in 1974 (at the old circuit layout) and one last week (with similar vintage cars).

Lol. Some I took with the very first, original POS version Canon EOSM and the plastic fantastic EFS 55-250 lol lol. I actually had a lot of fun with that camera. Still got it. For all the sh!t that camera got from everywhere & everyone, it actually took quite a nice photo, if you got the exposure & focus right

A few weeks ago I went to Olivers Mount in Scarborough to watch some motorcycle road races. For most of the year the "circuit" is a normal road with a 30mph speed limit but on a few weekends a year the road is closed and bikes can race. The fastest lap is approaching an average of 85mph and top speeds are around 160mph. Apart from the odd bit of more modern safety fencing, instead of straw bales, the track hasn't changed much since the 70's/80's when the likes of Agostini and Barry Sheene raced there. I went for three days and as the weekend wore on I ended up using my lighter lenses as you don't always need your longer zooms. I've attempted to give an idea of how near you get and what the circuit winds through in some of the following pictures. Highly recommended (y)

@Lumixdude for a camera you call POS you have done really well an the images look fab.

Did go do a search on the Canon EOS M and see what you mean by some of the comments
Ha ha. I ended up with one after all my DSLR gear got stolen, and the original MK 1 version was on fire sale. I did not like it at all, until I unintentionally bought the absolutely fabulous little EFM 11-22, when I went into a camera store to buy a 16-35 for my full frame Canon. I think the camera and lens weighed less than just the 16-35. Had a LOT of fun with that little kit, and was the stimulus that got me into mirrorless m4/3. Canon have some real bargains hidden in their lens catalogue, the EFM 11-22 being one, EFM 22 pancake, EFS 55-250, and EF 40 pancake being some that I think are unmatched by any other manufacturer.

@kae1 some cracking pictures there Ken, you have capture the event nicely,
Thanks for the kind comment, Nick. I know a trip to Scarborough would be a bit of a trek for you, but you need to put it on your "bucket list". ;)

Did you do BSB at Oulton last weekend?
Not this time ...... although I've just finished watching BSB race 1 & 2 - and wow!!!!

I didn't, life getting in the way hope to be there for the last 3 races but no guarantee.
I know what you mean as my daughter's life (she's just had a baby) is getting in my way too! ;) Hope to get to the Rally Stages in November🤞.

Made the long trek up to Oliver’s Mount Gold Cup event at Scarborough from the Isle of Wight last week especially to watch and support my stepson Ryan #361 Yamaha TZR250 and Kawasaki based 600 Supertwin. Met up with @kae1 who kindly gave me some hints, tips and info on the circuit. Currently suffering with a loss of my motorsports photography mojo so shooting at a different venue was good and I’m always highly motivated to shoot my stepson who is an avid and very good Road Racer - having raced in several events in Ireland and N.I. during the summer months.
He had a particularly bad crash at the races in Armoy last year see ‘Armoy Crash 2021’ (WR Racing)
where he smashed both ankles and spiral fractured his leg
You can never keep him down though he was back in Ireland Racing again only a couple of weeks after getting his fixator removed from his leg this year !
Very brave ! Hence we were keen to travel up to support him at Scarborough

@robstar1963 Cracking set of images, and the more I see of the Panasonic 200mm f2.8 the more it moves up the GAS list

But I do find it interesting that there is a "difference" in the way images are rendered when using m43 compared to my Canon 1Dx with similar length lens. But I really like the images out of any bits of kit.

@kae1 Yep, Oliver's Mount is now on the bucket list, my sister in law lives in Whitby so might have to plan a trip up, around the racing of course
