These are not going to have great IQ since I shot them with my Google Pixel 7 Pro phone. The Portrait mode seems to work better sometimes when trying to shoot macro but in general shooting at this small distances phones do really poorly compared to all the other modes and capabilities of the cameras:

I discovered 20 minutes ago that there are a whole forest of tiny mushrooms in one of the gardens at my workplace.

I have seen 4 different kinds of mushrooms so far but they are all very small, not even taller then the grass itself.

Portrait mode seems to work best to try and isolate them even when I get down as much as I can but the IQ does degrade quite a bit and I had to crop on this one as well.

One of the big challenges is getting the camera to focus on the mushrooms at such close distance. Macro mode does engage but it doesn't always focus in the right place and it's not very clear if it is out of focus, I wish it had Focus Peaking or a Picture in Picture Magnification for the focus area like Panasonic does in their mirrorless cameras.

There is a lot of clutter but there's nothing I can do about that, can't spend half an hour picking up everything to make the cleanest background and composition.

I should shoot more top down views of mushrooms.

I got a bit excited with how much fun I had making a background from the dry leaves from the picture above so I done another one. I don't typically do stage my images as I prefer the document as is but I guess I'm in a funny mood today.

One of my favourite mushrooms: Purple ... Rain?

I quite like the swirly effect of Portrait mode though I'm not sure if it's completely software made or some optical design on the ultra wide angle ot telephoto lens.

Twinsies. I quite like the Portrait mode for this one as well.

Shooting it in normal mode you can see how much Portrait mode crops in but this one looks quite busy and messy, at least it has better IQ and resolution.

Going in as close as possible ... And casting some shade on the shroomie because of that.
